What is Asset Tracking?

Asset tracking has two significant parts; IoT hardware and software. Modern-day asset tracking is done through the use of tagging tools. Some of these tools include RFID tags, barcodes, QR codes, GPS, NFC, and Bluetooth. Each tagging tool is unique, and specifics may vary, but they accomplish the same thing; assigning an asset with a unique identification code.

Here are the four components to tracking a device:

  1. Record all assets into an IT system
  2. Attach relevant data
  3. Tag assets with chosen tagging tool
  4. Monitor and track assets in real-time.

Choosing the Right Asset Tracking Solution

There are a variety of ways asset tracking can help your business. With Xirgo technology, you can track the information of assets, confirm due dates, collaboration documents, usage information, which employee it is assigned to, how long it is being used, etc. For some people, asset tracking means to track assets with real-time location, and for some, asset tracking is to follow their asset's usage.

Novotech can help you find the correct asset tracking technology for your application. Whatever your businesses' asset tracking needs are, we can find a product and solution to match. Why Do We Need Asset Tracking?

Many businesses heavily rely on equipment to generate revenue. For those companies, small and large, asset management is essential. When businesses forgo asset tracking, they risk losing business to more advanced technologically advanced competitors, but they'll also incur expenses that eat into profits.Typically, the purpose of asset tracking was to keep an eye on inventory. With new technology, tagging tools and computerized systems now available, asset tracking has expanded its reach. Today, businesses can use asset tracking for:

  • Automating inventory management
  • Calculating depreciation values
  • Monitoring conditions
  • Scheduling maintenance
  • Achieving compliance
  • Improving lifecycle management

Telematics solutions are specialty solutions for commercial fleet vehicles.

IoT devices, like the XT2400, collect and transmit data on things like vehicle use, maintenance requirements and automotive servicing.

Advanced telematics solutions can coordinate vehicles and transmit data to manage and oversee their fleet's health, productivity, and profitability.

How does telematics work?

A telematics solution requires a vehicle tracking device. This device can send, receive and store telemetry data. It should connect to the vehicle's OBDII (onboard diagnostics) or CAN-BUS port with a sim card.

Collection and Monitoring

An onboard modem is needed to enable communication via wireless networks. The telemetry device collects GPS data and many other vehicle-specific data and will transmit it via GPRS (General Packet Radio Service).

Interpreting data

The server translates the data and displays it for end-users via secure websites and mobile apps optimized for smartphones and tablets. Location, speed, idling time, harsh acceleration or braking, fuel consumption, vehicle faults, and more can be recorded with telemetry. When analyzed for particular events and patterns, this information can provide in-depth insights across an entire fleet.
